What to Do on the Day of Your MOT

We know the day your MOT test can be daunting. In this short guide, we give some handy tips to make sure you are prepared for your car MOT.

It’s important to arrive on time

MOTs are usually done in timed slots. Ensure you arrive at the time of your appointment. Arriving late may mean that you will have to reschedule your test for another day.

Bring all necessary documents

If you are having a service carried out, please bring your vehicle service book so that it can be updated.

Carry out a quick visual check

Before you take your car for its MOT, check that all lights, indicators, brakes, and tyres are in good working order. You can also do a quick check of your windscreen wipers, horn, and mirrors. If there are any issues, you can arrange to fix these before your MOT is due ensuring your vehicle successfully passes the test.

Prepare to wait or leave your vehicle

Typically an MOT test will take around 45 minutes to an hour. However, it can take longer depending on your vehicle type and access to your vehicle components. You can wait in the test centre or leave and come back later.

Get your results

Once the test is complete, the examiner will give you a certificate that will either pass or fail your vehicle. If your vehicle fails, you will receive a list of any issues that need to be fixed. You can then take your vehicle for any necessary repairs and have it retested.

Remember that the MOT is an important safety check that ensures your vehicle is safe and roadworthy. By preparing ahead of time and following the above steps, you can help ensure a smooth and stress-free MOT experience.
